This exhibition is an expedition by two contemporary artists into the collections of the Gallen-Kallela Museum and especially the world of Mary Gallén. With their new works, Kaisu Koivisto of Finland and the Italian artist Claudia Peill address the meanings of objects, places and recollections.
‘Capriccio’ is a musical term for a lively composition of free form. The exhibition is part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary year of Mary Gallén’s birth. Music had an important role in Mary’s life. She was a musician, a skilled pianist and a music teacher.
The exhibition at the Gallen-Kallela Museum emerged from a dialogue between the artists, the museum and the collections. The new works find a parallel with the building and setting at Tarvaspää, and the museum’s collections and archive materials.
